The Society for Related Rights of the Press (DVP) is embarking on a new phase in its development and has appointed Mélanie Loubersac as Chief Executive Officer.

Since its creation in 2021, DVP (the Society for the Related Rights of the Press) has played a decisive role in defending the interests of press publishers and news agencies in their dealings with technology companies that reuse their content.

After years of work positioning DVP as a key player in the ecosystem of related rights of the press, the organisation is entering an operational phase, working to build a more sustainable financing mechanism for journalism and news at a time when press content is increasingly being exploited in the digital sphere.

With this in mind, the Board of Directors has unanimously approved the appointment of Mélanie Loubersac as Chief Executive Officer of DVP and looks forward to drawing on her considerable expertise in this sector.

With its 305 members, DVP is approaching this new phase with determination, bolstered by the signature of a licensing agreement with Google announced at the end of 2023, and is currently pursuing several ongoing negotiations with other platforms.

Building on 15 years of experience in collective management and having served as Director of Audiovisual Distribution at Sacem, Mélanie Loubersac is taking over from Caroline Bonin as Chief Executive Officer of DVP.

Mélanie Loubersac will go on as a strategic advisor to DVP to assist with legal matters and, alongside Sacem’s Deputy Chief Executive Officer, will devote herself to tackling the legal issues associated with the booming artificial intelligence sector and the analysis of its impacts, work that will be crucial to all of Sacem and DVP’s future activities.

Mélanie Loubersac, Managing Director of DVP, made the following statement:
“The press sector faces many challenges: economic, technological, and of course social. I am proud to support press publishers and news agencies in the struggle to secure their rights in the digital world. I would like to thank the entire DVP Board of Directors and its President Jean-Marie Cavada, as well as Cécile Rap-Veber, David El Sayegh and Caroline Bonin, for putting their trust in me. I can assure all DVP members that our team is committed to ensuring this collective management organisation reaches its full potential in order to defend the related rights of the press on all fronts.”

Jean-Marie Cavada, President of the Board of Directors of DVP, had the following to say:
“I welcome the decision to create a press-focused related rights department within our negotiating team at Sacem. We have full confidence in this team and the goals it has set out to achieve, working with the law on its side to build an ecosystem that truly supports press publishers and news agencies.”
