DVP has released the results of a Médiamétrie panel commissioned as part of a large-scale study on the press market in France and Europe.
This study provides a snapshot of the French press landscape in the first half of 2025, specifically the extent to which the public enjoy and trust the press content they access via search engines and social media on a daily basis.
This type of work, which has been sorely lacking in France, represents a valuable contribution to the existing body of similar studies conducted abroad.
While French people today declare that they are directed to press content in 92% of cases when searching for current news, this may not always be the case. What will happen when search engines that can hold a conversation take over from the now “traditional” search engine interface that has been the standard since the early 2020s?
With figures showing that new GenAI services are being adopted at an unprecedented rate, and 3 out of 5 French people already reporting in January that they had used a GenAI service, including no less than 85% of those aged 15-24, publishers and news agencies have every reason to be concerned.
