On the occasion of his re-election as President of DVP, Jean-Marie Cavada stated:
From 74 founding members at its inception, DVP, the only collective press management organisation (OGC), had grown to 366 members by the end of 2024, representing more than 850 publications and press agencies.
DVP now represents more than 50% of the press publishers’ market and 70% of the press agencies’ market in France.
Through demanding negotiations, often tense or still lacking transparency despite the requirements of the 2019 European Directive, which was immediately transposed into French law, the DVP team has already distributed tens of millions of euros to its members, publishers and press agencies. Nevertheless, there is still a long way to go to achieve a more balanced distribution of value for the hundreds of publishers and press agencies that strive daily to produce quality information.
In the midst of the global upheavals we are currently experiencing, the press is waiting for the government to use its power to ensure that laws are rigorously enforced, in order to avoid the chaos of information that will invade the democratic space if press laws continue to be flouted.
The massive arrival of AI in the world of the press calls for even stronger collective solidarity and courageous vigilance on the part of French and European institutions.
