DVP, the French collective management organisation for publishers’ and press agencies’ rights, and Google have announced the extension of their previous agreement, which was concluded in October 2023.
223 press publications that are members of DVP will receive neighbouring rights from Google in return for the use of the content they produce through Google Search, Google Discover and Google News.
The signing of this agreement is the result of a renegotiation of the terms of remuneration for press publishers under their neighbouring rights and takes into account the recommendations published by the Competition Authority in 2024.
“The improvement in the method of calculating revenues and the bonus remuneration granted to press publishers who make the most human, material and financial investments are favourable developments for our members,” said Jean-Marie Cavada, President of DVP. “Dialogue with all platforms must continue to ensure fair and sustainable remuneration for all recognised families of publications and press agencies,” he added.
“This renewed contract with DVP reaffirms our commitment to a dynamic and diverse information ecosystem. Thanks to our implementation of the European Copyright Directive, more than 450 press publications in France and more than 4,500 in Europe receive neighbouring rights,” said Faten Dubarry, Director of Partnerships for France, the Middle East and Africa at Google.
