In recent years, the digital exploitation of press publications has seen extensive development. This growth, however, has been to the detriment of press outlets, with digital platforms (search engines and social networks) capturing most of the value.
By enabling fair negotiations in good faith, the related right for press publications was created to restore balance in the value chain between press publishers and news agencies on the one hand, and technology companies that reproduce or broadcast publications online on the other.
As a collective management organisation, DVP’s main mission is to collect and distribute the remuneration of related rights to its members.
DVP’s objectives are therefore to:
- Negotiate and collect remuneration due for the use of press publications in its repertoire,
- Fairly distribute collected rights to the relevant rights holders,
- And, more generally, defend the interests of its members, in particular through legal action against any party using this repertoire who refuse to obtain authorisation.
To this end, DVP has decided to draw on the expertise of both Sacem (Society of Authors, Composers and Music Publishers) and the CFC (French Copyright Management Centre). DVP will be relying on Sacem’s recognised experience in negotiating with online public communication platforms and operating a collective management organisation, and on the CFC’s expertise in carrying out distribution operations.
