DVP, the Society for Related Rights of the Press, has announced the signing of its first agreement with Microsoft in application of the European directive that establishes related rights for press publishers and news agencies in the digital single market.
This agreement concerns the Bing search engine.
The signature of this agreement was the culmination of several years of careful negotiation. The rights holders, publishers, and press agencies represented by DVP are now legally entitled to royalties for the use of content they produced that was displayed on the search engine between 2019 and 2024.
Jean-Marie Cavada, President of the Board of Directors of DVP:
“This agreement with Microsoft is a major step forward for the press rights holders who have joined DVP in recent years. Now that previous issues have been resolved, we are counting on Microsoft to continue working with DVP to establish sustainable licensing and payment terms going forward.”
